Bones

I pass the church on my way to work
They built a new one, tore the other to the ground.
Under the dirt, the bones of aunts and uncles passed away,
never got to see you graduate.
I saw my bones interred in dirty pavement
I took a walk away as far as I could get.
But you and I are stepping over gravesides
to remind each other, we have yet to die.

Black Cat
01:30

Black cat, watching from a perch,
thinking awful thoughts, waiting for someone else.
Black cat, lapping shadows from a pool of cloudy light,
chewing on little bones.
Your eyes glowing in headlights,
clawing at crooked lines,
taking the long way home.

Sidewalks/Dead Leaves
02:39

Down Boulevard I see your friends,
I wave but I am burning red.
And your street names in my memory
These songs are killing me as we speak,
as if your words were the weight of everything,
and the sidewalks are whispering to me,
saying "go home, be alone."
Just bury me until next fall,
this heart's a mass of burning fireballs,
and your name is etched onto its walls,
and I can hear the dead leaves as they call,
saying "go home, be alone."
